Relleu is a municipality of the Valencian Community, Spain, located in the interior of the province of Alicante, in the region of the Marina Baja. Its term of 76 km2 is one of the most extensive in the area.
Relleu is nestled in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains such as Cabezón de Oro (1,207 m.), Sierra de la Grana (1.112 m.), And Sierra del Aguilar (889 m). Only 39 km from Alicante and its international airport and 25 km from the beaches of Villajoyosa.
In recent years, it has become an attractive destination for indoor tourism. Although agriculture (mainly almonds and olive trees) is still in practice, it is not as important as it was in the last century and today Relleu's economic source depends, for the most part, on the services sector.
The urban center of the town, with slopes and narrow as the Arab souks, is very well preserved and has architectural examples of notable interest. The Plaza del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús is the convivial epicenter of Relleu and communications hub of the population.
The swamp of Relleu, located in the southeast end of the municipal term and just before the term of Orcheta, collects the waters of the Amadorio river. It is a construction of the eighteenth century, vault-arch type 30 meters high and 10 meters thick on the wall. The dam was built on the initiative of the inhabitants of Villajoyosa, who received in 1653 the document of King Felipe IV authorizing its construction. Currently, this swamp has no purpose as such. The place is impressive due to the abruptness of the strait that forms the river.
