Vegueta is the foundational district of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It was declared a National Historic-Artistic Site in 1973. From then until the present day, it has been the political, religious and administrative centre of the life in the island. It maintains its character as the administrative centre of the city and has acquired a remarkable touristic character as it is the best preserved historic spot of the Canary Islands, where we will find the cathedral and the Santa Ana square, the Canarian museum and different historic buildings characterised by the typical Canarian balcony in these narrow streets of Vegueta. Across the Guiniguada, we reach the Triana area, the most important commercial and pedestrian street in the city of Las Palmas, where we will find the park and the San Telmo bus station, historical buildings such as the Gabinete Literario, the Pérez Galdós theatre and the Peréz Galdós house museum among other museums.
