Barceloneta is a seaside neighborhood of Ciutat Vella of Barcelona built during the eighteenth century and originally planned in 1719, in order to accommodate the inhabitants of La Ribera neighborhood who had lost their homes, sent to demolish by Felipe V to build the Citadel. But construction did not begin until 1753.
The Barceloneta district owes its existence to the land won over the sea to absorb Maians Island. The neighborhood is triangular in shape and borders the neighborhood beaches and the sea, with Pier Old Port of Spain and the neighborhood of La Ribera, station France and the new Olympic Port City. During the nineteenth century it had an important industrial development with large factories today disappeared as the Land and Maritime Machinist, converted today in sports halls or educational institutions.
