We areback another week to continue exploring Donostia. Last week we discovered the Romantic Area, the center of the city. Today we return to the sea, and we are going to see the Gros neighbourhood. Follow us!
We sare going to start our tour on the Zurriola bridge. The first of the bridges at the mouth of the Urumea River was built in 1921, and you will recognize it by its characteristic Art Deco lampposts. Crossing the point you can not avoid looking at the building at the end of the bridge: the Kursaal Congress Center. It was inaugurated in 1999, in the place where the Grand Casino used to be and was designed by Rafael Moneo. A building that does not leave anyone indifferent, and it can not be denied that its inauguration was the starting point for the transformation of the neighborhood.
Gros is more popular than ever, and it has everything. Starting at the Zurriola beach, the most sportive of the three beaches, the favorite place for surfers and an area of bars where all donostiarras gather for the pintxopote, especially in Calle Zabaleta.
