Donostia District By District: Romantic Area

We return one more week to continue showing you the neighborhoods of Donostia - San Sebastián. Last Tuesday we showed you the Old Town, and this week we will show you the Center, also known as the Romantic Area. Will you come with us?

Taking a walk around the city is the best way to get to know it, so we continue our journey where we left it: on the Boulevard. This street is full of shops, cafes, restaurants ... In short, it is the nerve center of the city. It is common to see both young and old sitting on the banks that run through the area, or participating in any of the activities held at the kiosk, which was built in 1906 by the artist Ricardo Magdalena. It is, without doubt, one of the most popular spots of the city.

At one end of the Boulevard we will find the City Hall of San Sebastián, built in 1897 for another purpose; the building was the home of the Gran Casino of Donostia - San Sebastián, until they banned the game. And we can not talk about the town hall without mentioning its gardens, known as the Alderi Eder Park; located in front of the Bay of La Concha, they one of the most typical pictures of the city.

The City Hall is just one of many buildings from the Belle Epoque. When Queen Maria Cristina began to spend the summer in our city, they began to build majestic French-style buildings. Thanks to that, the area boasts a very elegant urbanism. Examples of this are the Victoria Eugenia theater and the Maria Cristina Hotel.

Walking through the pedestrian streets of the area, we will arrive at the Plaza Gipuzkoa, where we can find the Diputación building or a pond with swans and ducks, a particularly beautiful place at Christmas.

But the Romantic Area does not end here, and it is a quite extensive area. So to not bore you, we will continue our journey next week.

We will be waiting for you, thanks for joining us.
