Gastronomic tourism in San Sebastian

Did you know gastronomy is one of the main motivations to visit San Sebastian? A large number of tourists come to visit our capital every year to learn about our food, culture and traditions.

This year, the exchange of experiences between experts in tourism and gastronomy has returned to its origins. The 5th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism, co-organized by the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the Basque Culinary Center (BCC), was held on May 2-3 at the KURSAAL Conference Center in San Sebastian. The theme in this fifth edition was the creation of employment and the promotion of entrepreneurship and it has brought together more than 700 professionals from 85 countries.

San Sebastian has 18 Michelin Stars within a 25 km radius, miniature culinary art called Pintxo, the prestigious and second gastronomic university in Europe, and much more! Something to be proud of, don’t you think?

And since we are talking about gastronomy, here is a small list of recommendations of the best pintxos in each district of the city:

In addition, although San Sebastian is crowned as the best gastronomic city, its surroundings do not have to be left behind. The region of Goierri, 40 kilometres from the city, represents the gastronomic tourism seen from the origin of the product (the famous Idiazabal cheese comes from there); Tolosaldea, just 30 kilometres away, recreates the authentic rural flavours of Euskadi with its black beans, petit fours and cigarettes; and the coast offers the freshest seafood.

Due to the large number of visitors, once for the historical and geographical context, and now for culture and gastronomy, the residential market of San Sebastian is facing changes. It is difficult to find a home with all the features you want, but the team at Engel & Völkers is here to help you find your ideal home.
