The new 2018 Michelin Stars

2017 isn't over yet but we already have news about the catering industry's new Michelin Stars for the year 2018.

Three stars

Two of the most televised chefs, Jordi Cruz and Ángel León, have received the Three Stars award for their work at Barcelona's ABaC and Aponiente, in El Puerto de Santa María.
In the case of Aponiente, its constant commitment to a menu with the "mar de fondo" theme is rewarded with two nominations and a dessert highlighting the molluscs of adobo, the melosidades of tuna and an exquisite pairing of the two ingredients. At ABaC, its mix of ingredients and preparations as well as the possibility of making the menu more flexible to the client's taste are highlighted.

Two stars

Five restaurants receive the Two Stars and are located throughout Spain: Maralba Restaurant, in Almansa, Albacete; Disfrutar y Dos Cielos, in Barcelona; Coque, in Madrid and the Cabaña Buenavista Restaurant, in El Palmar, Murcia.
Out of all of them, the recently opened Coque in the capital, where the "Olympic spirit, tenacity and glory" have borne fruit with two new stars for Mario brothers, Juan Diego and Sandoval.
The layout of this restaurant (evolution of the food house that the family owned in Humanes, Madrid) is divided into four settings: cocktail bar, wine cellar, kitchen and lounge. All these rooms aim to achieve a unique experience for the senses.

A star

21 new restaurants get their first Michelin Star and they are sporadically spread across different parts of Spain. In Andalusia, Cachito Novo is located in the largest tourist resort in Europe: Sancti Petri, in Cadiz. In Catalonia, there is Castell Peralada, in Gerona, where you can enjoy a "contemporary version of the Empordà cuisine". In the Valencian Community, there is Andrews, in Calpe, where diners are invited to sample the wide variety of dishes that fuse classic Mediterranean cuisine with international foods.
La Rioja, Madrid, the Basque Country, La Mancha, Castilla León and the Canary Islands also join the Michelin Guide with more than a dozen restaurants.

Have the Michelin Stars lost their shine?

The news about the new Michelin Stars has not had the transcendence to which the world of gastronomy (and outside it) is accustomed. This may have led some people to think that the Michelin Guide is no longer what it used to be. However, we must remember that every year new rankings are created and television programmes that have a great impact on the public, such as Masterchef as well as gastronomic guides increase interest. In any case, whether the Michelin Stars phenomenon has fizzled out or not, it hasn't lost its appeal in the Spanish cuisine.
