These are the uniquely Torrevieja landmarks that will make your visit memorable.
Torre del Moro or Moro Tower. This is the most important symbol of the City of Torrevieja. It has the status of an Asset of Cultural Interest, as a Historical Heritage of Spain. During the early 1800s, salt-mining flourished, and salt was transported across the Mediterranean Sea by Dutch and Swedish ships. The tower is one of the defensive structures guarding the coast against pirates.
Museo del Mar y de la Sal or Museum of the Sea and Salt. The exhibits tell the history of Torrevieja, and the work of art that you will find most interesting here is the model of a ship, Pascual Flores, made entirely of salt. Iglesia Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción or The Immaculate Conception Church. This neoclassical church is at the center of the city in Plaza de la Constitución. It houses the image of the patron saint, La Purísima Concepción, along with other religious artworks. Phone: +34965712132 for inquiries.
El Paseo del Dique de Levante or Breakwater of Levante. This 1600-meter long dyke with a picturesque promenade designed for outdoor recreation leads to the lighthouse. It has jogging and biking trails, playgrounds, and exercise areas.
Parque de las Naciones or Nations Park. This huge public city park features a to scale map of Europe. A green lung of the city with playgrounds, and ponds with various plants and animals. It is open from 10 am to 9:30 pm. Phone: +34 666548892 to inquire about opening times.
El Monumento a la Mujer del Marinero or Monument of the Wife of a Sailor. This iconic sculpture stands along the Levante Promenade. It honors the wives of sailors lost at sea and is one of the most photographed landmarks of Torrevieja.
Estatua de la Bella Lola or Statue of the Beautiful Lola. This sculpture in Paseo Juan Aparicio features a lady named Lola sitting on a bench, looking out to the sea. Lola refuses to accept the death of her beloved Antonio, who sailed with the ship, La Gaviota which is presumed to have sunk.
