How to stand out in a group interview

When we think of a job interview, we always imagine ourselves face to face with the hiring manager of the company and explaining why we are the right person for the position. However, it is not such a usual thing to think about group interviews, which are tools used by companies in order to get to know the candidate's attitude towards the job role on offer.

Due to the huge competition in the recruitment field, candidate selection is not easy. In order to prepare you for the next interview, here we want to give you a series of keys and tips that will be very useful.

Before the interview

Remember that at the time you are called for the group interview, you should ask the person who has called you what the test will consist of. They will probably not go into detail, but you will surely get some guidance and valuable information so that you can prepare properly. Be sure to do some research on the company and get to know its background, goals, its way of dealing with customers, etc.

Based on this research, think about your own ideas and concepts that could be useful for the company to achieve its goals. In this way, you will stand out for your creativity, initiative and interest.

Before leaving home for the interview, be sure to wear a suitable outfit based on the position you are applying for. If it is a creative job, do not wear a suit. The first impression you make will be more important than your ability.

During the Interview

The first thing you should keep in mind is punctuality. Try to be at the place where you will be interviewed 5 or 10 minutes early. Also, be extremely polite to everyone involved in the process. Rather than getting chatty, it is best to talk clearly and concisely.

At the interview, it never hurts to try to share what you think makes you unique. In other words, show your personality as it is. Also, do not give general answers even if you really like playing sports or reading books. Always list the exact activities that you enjoy taking part in.

Listening and valuing what your interviewer says will help you participate in the group activities during the interview. Even try to highlight the opinions of those who have the most difficulty expressing them. In this way, you will demonstrate empathy and leadership, which are indispensable values in any job.

After the interview

Before leaving the interview room, politely shake hands with the other candidates and the staff members who have carried out the interview. When you get home, send a thank you note to the person who contacted you to arrange the appointment. After all, showing your appreciation is a sign of humbleness.
