The Grande Corniche coast road between Nice and Italy, the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, Saint-Tropez port, the Croisette in Cannes, etc. Thanks to cinema, these landscapes and sites have themselves become the stars of the Côte d’Azur. The Côte d’Azur, the home of the film shoot, is the ideal film location; it has been the setting for a variety of iconic films that showcase the region, cementing its reputation. For decades, this beautiful coastline with its magnificent hotels, casinos, villas, and beaches has played host to some of the biggest names in cinema.

There are so many films that immortalise the French Riviera, featuring a procession of cinema’s leading actors and actresses from Brigitte Bardot, Alain Delon and Belmondo to Grace Kelly and Sean Connery.


So, it is no accident that the famous international film festival is held in Cannes every year.

The Cannes Film Festival

If you just wanted one reason to invest in Cannes, wouldn’t this be it? Every year, the famous festival attracts stars from all over the globe, sending the Croisette and visiting tourists into a frenzy. Cannes Film Festival, its red carpet, and stairs etc. It is an exclusive event with the jury awarding the Palme d’Or for the best film of the year.

In 2021, the director Julia Ducourna won the award for her film Titane. She was only the second woman to win this prize. The first woman, the New Zealand director Jane Campion, was awarded the prize nearly thirty years ago, in 1993, for her film, The Piano.

The “Musée de la Gendarmerie & du Cinéma Saint-Tropez”

Le Gendarme, a role famously played by Louis de Funès and a film that put Saint-Tropez firmly in the spotlight, certainly merited its own museum. Housed within this museum, cinephiles will find a collection devoted to this film and others set on the French Riviera. It is an absolute must if you are visiting the Var.
