What you should know about this house

Amenities and special features of this house

If the building of this magnificent Carthusian monastery began in the XIth century, this is exactly in February 10th 1204 that was created, in this unique setting, the 41st house of the Carthusian order. It provides a conventual church, a large cloister (355 meters of perimeter) and a small cloister (beginning of the XIIIth century) and numerous chapels. Several of its towers, and also the roof of the conventual church and its bell tower, are covered with Burgundy style glazed tiles giving to the whole a picturesque appearance for a Provencal Carthusian monastery. It was subjected to a classification as a Historical monument in 1959 and 1974 but a building permit for the restoration and the conversion of the domain in a tourist residence was obtained in accordance with the direction of the Cultural state.
The Carthusians planted vine from the XIIIth century but gave it up when they left in 1901.
This is only from 1977 that the domain came alive once more. Nowadays, it is composed of 14 hectares in Cote du Rhone and Cote du Rhone villages on the total 40 hectares of the domain.

Gard: Location and surroundings of this property

The Gard department is part of the region Languedoc-Roussillon- Midi-Pyrénées. It is culturally rich; this is the extraordinary meeting point between Provence, Languedoc, Cevennes, Camargue and Mediterranean. The tallest evidence or the architecture as the Gard’s bridge, the Nimes’s arenas, the Aigues-Mortes fortification, Uzes… offer a trip in the past from the Gallo-Roman age to now. The Gard is also the industrial lung of the region with diversified activities (nuclear, textile, food-processing industry…) but also agriculture and most of all through the viticulture.
