This premium quality property named “Villa Marizzina” was built in 1901 close to Monaco. At the beginning, the owner, countess of Morla, called it under her name to rent it to his cousine the Tsar Nicolas II, grand-duke Andrei Vladimirovitch from Russia. This one used it as a refugee for him and his mistress, the Russian ballerina Mathilde Kshesinskaia that he will marry in 1921. Then, the Grand-Duc bought the property in 1913 to rename it “Villa Alam”, the surname of Mathilde, Mala spelled at reverse. The name of “Alam” was kept, and it designates nowadays the area where the villa was built.
In 1914, returning from the celebrations of the 300th birthday dynasty of the Romanov, Andrei and Mathilde proceeded with a new complete renovation of the villa. Unfortunately, the villa was sold to 1929 to honore the accumulated debts in Monaco’s casinos by Mathilde.
The new owner, princess Odescalchi, from a noble Italian line of the 18th century, gave the property its actual name “Villa Marizzina”. She kept it until its death in 1980 to leave it to its caretaker for services.
The actual owner bought it in 2010 to renovate the property entirely. Long discussions of 1 year were started to preserve the historical and big works begun to last in May 2016.
