South Kensington Station due for upgrade
Great news everyone! South Kensington station has made it on the top ten stations in TfL’s 50 stations long term upgrading program. As most of you probably know, this underground station is an important transport hub, with a daily traffic that surpasses the one at Gatwick Airport and reaches almost 30 million passengers every year.
The reason behind this increased traffic flow is actually the location of the station. Whilst catering to local residents, businesses and people who work in this area, it also serves to a substantial flow of tourists. South Kensington, or also called the “Museum Quarter” is one of the most visited areas in London and is the home of the world’s most renowned museums and venues: Victoria & Albert Museum, Natural History and Science museums, Harrods, Hyde Park, the famous King’s Road and Walton Street. Also, South Kensington is known as one of the most exclusive real estate markets in London. The station’s infrastructure is quite outdated and also missing a step free access, so a full refurbishment and upgrade are both highly needed and expected.
