Patmos: Location and surroundings of this property

Location: Patmos lies at the northern part of the Dodecanese prefecture.
Unique features: Patmos has been included in UNESCO’s Monuments of World Heritage since 1999 thanks to “Chora” the Historical center, the Abbey of Saint Ioannis the Theologian, and the Cavern of Revelation. The characteristic soothing vibe across the island has created over the years faithful enthusiasts with identical expectations and memories of the island.
The fortification in the area of Kasteli dates back to the 6th and 4th century bc. Archeological findings reveal the existence of an acropolis, surrounding temples dedicated to the gods Apollo and Dionysus, as well as a hippodrome. Over the ancient ruins, Christodoulos the saint built the Abbey of Saint Ioannis which overlooks the island to this day.
Accessibility: There is no airport on Patmos but domestic flights leave from the nearby island of Leros or international flights from Kos. A regular ferry connects Patmos to Rhodes and other islands as well as Piraeus, Athens.
Investment Potential: Since the island was declared a state sanctuary, there has been a difficult building permit process; therefore the number of tourists that can be accommodated on the island is limited. This is deliberately controlled by the administration so that no "Ballermann tourism" arises, this in turn keeping property prices high.
