On October 2nd the exhibit “Brueghel. Capolavori dell’arte fiamminga” (Brueghel, Masterpieces of Flemish art) opens at Palazzo Albergati. It traces over 150 years of Flemish artistic and familial history, bringing in Bologna the masterpieces created by the talented painters of a whole dynasty – the Brueghel family - from the 16th to the 17th centuries.
On show the works by Pieter Brueghel the Elder, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Jan Brueghel the Younger, Abraham Brueghel, Ambrosious Brueghel. The exhibition celebrates the family of Flemish painters - great interpreters of the seventeenth-century splendour, analysing the revolution of their realistic painting. Generations of artists who made their mark on the great themes of the history of art in Europe.
The exhibition also presents some works by other selected artists, such as Frans de Momper, Frans Francken, Hendrick van Balen, Joos de Momper, and many others who contributed - together with the Brueghels, to create one of the richest and most fascinating page or the art history.
The moral judgment, sovereign nature, soldiers and hunters, travellers and merchants, allegories and parables, splendour and vanity, silent life, and the dance of the lasts: through these themes giving the titles to the different sections, the exhibition presents the captivating story of real life and the thorough attention paid for the world description. In the Flemish painting - according to Brueghel’s style, Nature becomes the true protagonist of the human story. It is depicted with a figurative richness, a care for the detail, and a composition beauty never seen before in the painting history, such as the accurate and detailed painting An extensive Still Life of Fruit in a Landscape (1670) by Abraham Brueghel or the beautiful Allegory of the Four Elements (1630 - 1635) by Jan Brueghel the Younger and Hendrick van Balen, both on show at Palazzo Albergati.
The exhibition Brueghel. Capolavori dell’arte fiamminga is produced and organized by Arthemisia Group with the sponsorship of Comune di Bologna, and it is curated by Sergio Gaddi and Andrea Wandschneider, director of Paderborn Städtische Galerie in der Reithalle.
