Focus on the lift: data, curiosities and future prospects

In choosing your home, the presence of the lift plays an important role, an element that is hardly missing in Italian buildings. In fact, Italy holds the record as nation with the largest number of buildings equipped with lifts, leaving the United States and China behind.

The reasons are several: the presence of more buildings and fewer villas (unlike the rest of Europe); laws against architectural barriers, which increasingly incentivize the installation of hoists and elevators; a sedentary lifestyle, which has increased the number of lifts installed in single-family houses, and finally the possibility of deducting up to 36% of installation costs by way of extraordinary maintenance works.

But how much does the presence of the lift affect the value of a property?

Between two almost identical apartments, the one located in a building with a lift acquires more value. In particular, for the building with lift there is an increase in the valuation of properties of between 10% and 30%, depending on the plan.

Let's discover together some curiosities from the world and beyond!

The fastest elevator in the world

It is located in southern China within the Guangzhou Chow Tai Fook Finance Center in Guangzhou. In this 530-meter-high skyscraper there’s an elevator system which moves at a speed of 71.9 kilometers per hour (equal to 1200 meters per minute). In fact, 43 seconds are enough to get from the ground floor to the 95th floor.

The lunar space elevator

Science fiction fans will appreciate a project in development (theoretical) proposed by a Californian company according to which, in the future, it will be possible to build a "space" elevator capable of directly connecting the surface of the Earth with the Moon.

Whether it is in wrought iron and wood in the belle époque style, the highest in operation in the "Storto" building (157 meters) or the fastest in the Isozaki tower (7 meters per second), in Milan and in Italy the lift represents a big evolution in the way of conceiving and constructing buildings to move with new architectural styles.
