Mandria: Location and surroundings of this property

This property is located in the area of Padua called "Mandria", a silent and refined location, where privacy and tranquility are granted. Nevertheless, at the same time, it is conveniently located for the amenities and eases of the city centre, both for the Mandria area itself, either for the centre of Padua or Abano Terme. We are a stone's throw from the Shopping Center "Il Borgo", from the famous and historic Villa Molin, close to sports centers, supermarkets, bars, pastry shops, pharmacies, and other various shops. Like others in the Veneto region, its name probably derives from the fact that in ancient times the area was used as pasture. The area had to be known already in Roman times, being located between the Roman roads Aponense and Emilia Altinate. To confirm this there is the discovery of a memorial stone to the memory of Claudia Toreuma, Tiberius' liberated slave. This area is closely linked to the noble family of Capodilista and their predecessors the Transalgardi. In the second half of the eighth century AD, to reward two of the Transalgardi brothers for their help in the battles against the Lombards, Charlemagne appointed them Counts of Mandria, Saccisa, and Montemerlo. Among their descendants, we find the Capodilistas, who built a castle in the tenth century, but which was destroyed in 1180 for the construction of the canal Battaglia.
In a notary deed of the same year, the existence of the first church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, appears. It was built and elevated to be the parish of the Capodilistas -which had the power to choose the parish priest, later confirmed by the devotees-. Between 1794 and 1797 the increase in population involved the replacement of the old church with a larger one. Finally, it was later enlarged in 1942 and 1943.
Nowadays Mandria is a modern neighbourhug, but still rich in history. We cannot forget, amonst the others, the enchanting Villa Molin, built in 1597 by the architect Scamozzi from Vicenza, and Villa Giusti del Giardino, where the armistice, which put an end to the First World War for Italy, was signed.
