Castelnuovo Calcea: Location and surroundings of this property

The extraordinary landscape of hills and vineyards that appears to the visitor is one of the best attractions of Castelnuovo Calcea, which for centuries was the "gateway" to the Belbo Valley, the Monferrato of Nizza and the Acquese. The name derives from Castrum Novum (Castelnuovo), while Calcea could derive from calceus (area of lime quarries). The primitive settlement is attributed to the Ligurians. In 1154, it was taken by Barbarossa and was destroyed. It then passed under the Municipality of Asti and in 1290 it became a fiefdom of the Guttuari, the Marquis del Monferrato and the Visconti. The historic center is characterized by the beautiful panoramic square overlooked by the Town Hall and the suggestive Baroque parish church of Santo Stefano, one of the best-preserved Baroque churches in the Asti area. The remains of the castle, which was destroyed in 1631, have undergone recent renovations. In its shadow, a large and scenic terrace courtyard has been created, the stage for the various summer events from which you can enjoy a splendid panorama of the Alto Monferrato. The excellent "reds" of the area accompany the typical Piedmont recipes. On this area, DOC wines are produced in its area such as Barbera d'Asti, Barbera del Piemonte and Grignolino d'Asti. The path of the "Orme Park on the Court" winds through the vineyards with the sculptures and installations of great artists such as Lele Luzzati. Just 10 minutes from the town of Nizza Monferrato, which offers all the services, it is the perfect starting point to visit Asti (20 minutes), Alba (30 minutes) and all of Monferrato. Turin is an hour away, Milan and Genoa 1.5 hours away.
