The property is in the Santa Sofia area, a short distance from the famous church, whose complex history is equal to the intricate arrangement of the various building phases that characterize it: phases that are still largely misunderstood or interpreted conflicting by experts.
Tradition wants the church was founded by St. Prosdocimo, on the ruins of a pagan temple dedicated to Apollo. The dedication to Saint Sophia (Divinæ Sapientæ) would evoke a Byzantine origin. The first document mentioning the church of Santa Sofia dates back to February 19th, 1123: the bishop of Padua, Sinibaldo, intervened to solicit the completion of the church, building works that had lasted for decades, at least since 1109, in a construction site affected by calamities such as the earthquake of 1117.
