Cuasso al Monte: Location and surroundings of this property

Cuasso al Monte, located at the foot of Monte Piambello, is one of the largest municipalities in the province of Varese. The municipal territory is separated by a thin strip of land from Lake Lugano and consists of the hamlets of Cuasso al Lago, Cuasso al Piano, Borgnana, Cavagnano. All the centers are characterized by the presence of buildings built with local stone with a characteristic pink color. In Cuasso al Monte in 1635 a convent was built, called the “Desert”, due to its isolated position among the beech woods, entrusted to the Discalced Carmelites. Passed into the property of the noble Dandolo family in the 19th century, it hosted personalities such as Giacomo Leopardi, Tommaso Grossi, Giuseppe Mazzini and Giuseppe Garibaldi. Today the building is a modern hospital. The municipal area is part of the main drainage basin of Lake Maggiore and of the secondary basin of Lake Lugano, otherwise known as Ceresio. This is a pre-Alpine lake branched along the Italian-Swiss border with an area of 48.7 km², of which about 18 km² pertaining to the Italian Republic.
Ceresio is the Italianization of the Latin name Ceresium, of uncertain etymology: according to some it can be identified in an ancient Roman toponym "Ceresium" whose more accurate translation would be: "bluer than the sky". Others, however, report that the name derives from the Celtic "keresius" which means "branched" and in fact the shape of Lake Ceresio is really branched, with more branches.
The center of the provincial capital, Varese, and the motorway to Milan are 16 km away, while the international airport of Malpensa is 55 km away. The Swiss border can be easily reached by covering 8 km. Complying with 20 km you reach the coast of Lake Maggiore.
