Viale Andrea Doria was created in the late nineteenth century to reach the pioneering Trotter football field which in the early twentieth century hosted Milan's first home games before being replaced in the late 1920s by the Central Station. In those years the street became more important and central and new noble palaces were built in the period between the two world wars.
