Varese: Location and surroundings of this property

Valcuvia is characterized by a prealpine climate, commonly known at the regional level as an insubric mesoclimate. However, the valley has some climatic peculiarities, especially during the winter months. As a rule, during the winter, the climate is more rigid starting from Brinzio, passing through Castello Cabiaglio, Orino, Azzio, Cuvio, Cuveglio, Casalzuigno and Rancio Valcuvia this for the fact that the places mentioned are located at the foot of the north side of the Campo dei Fiori mountain - with the exception of Casalzuigno, at the foot of Monte Nudo - and therefore more subject to the influence of the mountain and to the mixing of attached air masses, resulting more protected from the south-southwest outlet of the valley in the Caldana-Cocquio Trevisago area to the north and Gemonio area to the south. In fact, starting from these last mentioned places, the climate becomes milder. Its name derives from the historically most important village that was Cuvio, capital of the feud where the civil authorities resided : the Feudatory and the Magistrate, and it was the seat of a parish and a district. Some want to make it derive from the Latin "vallis cum via", "Valle con via", since it has probably been a place of passage since ancient Roman times. If this were the case it would be a unique exception because other valleys had the same characteristic without anyone taking the name from the respective generic road. Another particular place is Arcumeggia (hamlet of Casalzuigno), whose name derives from the Latin "arx (fortress)" and "middle (middle)", as it is located halfway between two valleys and was the site of a fortress, now no longer exists. In 1447 it was given in fief to the Moriggia family of marquises as part of the fiefdom of Valtravaglia.
