Ghiffa: Location and surroundings of this property

Ghiffa boasts a wide municipal area with many small hamlets between Lago Maggiore and the hilly area that goes from Verbania to Switzerland. In 1447 the hamlet of Frino became the capital town, where the feudal lords build their own castle. During the 19th century, the transport connections by lake were developed and the the coastal road construction to Switzerland was completed. Ghiffa has become an important tourist centre thank to new hotels and great prestigious villas. The baroque monumental complex of Sacro Monte, dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity, is a real jewel in the landscape setting between Lake and woods of the Natural Reserve. It encompasses the Sanctuary, three chapels and the porch of the Via Crucis, from here the ancient pedestrian network of Via delle Genti, which linked the Verbano towns to Switzerland, starts: an easy itinerary at mountainside between woods and mule tracks with a breath-taking Lake view.
