became dangerous and required a boat or a footbridge. For this reason, it was closed in 1550, and traffic
was diverted to Porta Padova: it no longer exists today. The tower and the gate were demolished in 1882
with the opening of the new Via XX Settembre, which leads to the railway station across the iron bridge.
