Between Amalfi and Positano in the center of the Amalfi Coast is Conca dei Marini, one of the smallest towns in Italy declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. It owes its name to the specific geographic conformation in the shape of a basin, with the addition of the name of the Marini to emphasize the proximity to the sea. The splendid country became famous in the sixties and seventies for having hosted many famous people, including Gianni Agnelli, Coco Chanel, Princess Margaret of England and Jacqueline Kennedy. Today Conca dei Marini attracts a selected tourism from all over the world, with its beautiful accommodation facilities, the famous beach reported by Legambiente in the past among the 11 best beaches in Italy, gastronomy and its folk and religious festivals. The most important monuments are the Torre del Capo di Conca, an ancient sixteenth-century watchtower, the church of San Pancrazio and the Grotta dello Smeraldo. In the immediate vicinity we find Amalfi (5 km), Positano (14 km), Ravello (12 km) and Sorrento (30 km) cities that are worth a visit for their scenic and cultural beauties. The Naples Capodichino airport is about 77 km away and the Salerno railway station is about 29 km away. The beautiful islands of Capri and Ischia are easily accessible by ferry or private boats.
