Villa Teja was built by Carlo Leopardi, the famous poet’s rebel brother, in homage to his wife Teresa Teja.
The property is located nearby San Leopardo, a suggestive village rich in history, which was many times mentioned by Giacomo Leopardi in his works.
In front of the villa stand two other important buildings: Villa San Leopardo and Villa Koch.
The property was first inherited by the Augustinian fathers by Leopardi’s widow and later bought by the Koch family, who still today uses it for agricultural activities.
The square-shaped Villa Teja has a symmetric facade and its lower floor is covered with longitudinal bosses.
The villa is divided into 3 floors, each of about 365 sqm. On the ground floor there are the cellars and the farm offices, on the first floor a beautiful frescoed apartment while on the second one deposit rooms for the harvests. The property is completed by a centuries-old park of ca. 4000 sqm. Despite it is a country house, Villa Teja is located in a strategic position thanks to its 2 access routes: the SS 77 Val di Chienti and the so-called “Regina” road.

Recanati: Location and surroundings of this property

The property is located in Contrada San Pietro nearby San Leopardo, the former Leopardi’s county, where nowadays stand the San Leopardo Villa belonging to the Leopardi family and the San Leopardo Church, built at the end of the 19th century by the architect Gaetano Koch. Villa Teresa Teja is 4.5 km far from the center of Recanati, in the province of Macerata, and is famous for having given birth to Giacomo Leopardi, the most known Italian poet of the 19th century and one of the most important of all the Italian literature. Casa Leopardi (Leopardi’s house) is a tourist destination both at national and international level and the San Leopardo zone may be soon included in the same tourist flow.
Recanati is reachable from the major road, highway and railway hubs of the Adria coast and from the Ancona airport in just 30 minutes. The most important mountain resorts characterized by medieval villages, green hills, lake centers, regional and national parks such as the Conero or Monti Sibillini can be found in the immediate vicinity.
