In the heart of the old town around which Pallanza was born, near the beautiful Church of Saint Stephen, in the 16th century Palazzo Cadolini was built, named after the prestigious family who thanks to this palace affirmed its primary social status. This palace boasts elegant and marvellous rooms: from the main entrance in Baveno pink granite, that leads to the wide and bright veranda paved in gneiss and with pink granite columns, to the characteristic cellars with barrel vaults that overlook the garden with a well in its middle. This building became Palazzo Gulielmazzi in the 18th century: Pietro Guglielmazzi was an important notable, who devoted his life to public assignments and community service, this is why nowadays many streets and one school are dedicated to him. During his stay in this dwelling, he decided to create new spaces adding on a new wing and decorating the indoors with frescoes on the ceilings, such as one with a Chinese pattern in the living room, that was typical within the middle class of that historical period, or using patterns with origins from middle Europe in the dining room. Today, Palazzo Guglielmazzi offers a unique chance to relive the glories of the feudal society of the 1500s and of the bourgeois in the 1800s, which contributed so much to the success of Pallanza as an important, economic and cultural centre of the entire Lago Maggiore and its surrounding valleys.

Verbania: Location and surroundings of this property

The city of Verbania is the most populous Lago Maggiore centre made up of Intra, Pallanza and other small towns. Intra is the old town centre: a walking tour through the beautiful pedestrian street, rich in shops and bars where you can have an aperitif during summer or enjoy a hot chocolate in winter, is absolutely recommended. Walking along the panoramic Lake cycling path you can reach Pallanza (about 30 minutes from Intra on foot); during the walk you can admire the futuristic lines of the new theatre “Il Maggiore” and then the famous botanic garden of Villa Taranto, open from March to October, which hosts a very rich variety of flowers and rare plants, that is why many define it as the most beautiful garden in Italy. Once passed the little hill of “Castagnola”, one of the most exclusive residential areas of the city, you arrive in the centre of Pallanza, home of the “Museo del Paesaggio”, in which you will find the main works of the impressionist woodcarver Paolo Troubetzkoy. At the end of the wonderful lakeside promenade of Pallanza you finally get to the hamlet of Suna, a lovely village rich in fine restaurants and bars, which goes up to Monterosso slops.
