Fregene is connected to the city, which is about 25 km away, via the Via Aurelia, the A12 Roma-Civitavecchia motorway and the Via Portuense. The town is served, then, by the Station of Maccarese-Fregene and by the bus lines that leads up to the metro A .Fregene is 15 km far from the Leonardo Da Vinci Airport, 40 km from Ciampino airport and 55 km from the port of Civitavecchia. In 1666 Pope Clement IX ordered the planting of the pine forest, which later became monumental, to protect the fields cultivated by the sea winds and to make the surrounding marshy land healthy. In the twenty-first century Fregene has become a seaside resort of medium-high and rather well-known level (known as the pearl of the Lazio coast), and in recent decades it has achieved increasing visibility due to numerous frequentations in the world of entertainment and culture, such as Federico Fellini, Alberto Moravia (owner of a characteristic villa curiously installed at the mouth of the Arrone), Walter Chiari,, Marcello Mastroianni, Ettore Scola, and many others. After the fashion of the 90s for discos, the summer of Fregene is today marked by aperitifs at sunset on the beach with the sound of the Gong.
