Provincia di Cuneo: Location and surroundings of this property

Canosio is located in a side valley of the Maira Valley at 1240 meters above sea level, has 16 villages and hamlets. Mentioned for the first time in the 12th century at the time of the conflicts of interest between the marquisate of Busca and that of Saluzzo. The origin of the name is controversial: it could derive from a phytonymus canosium or cannosum or perhaps from a local family. In Ubac hamlet there is a large building, considered the best example in the whole valley of the architectural typology called house-village. The Gardetta plateau was recognized, in 2001, as an Italian Geological Heritage thanks to the visible presence of fossil remains. The plateau, where there are also remains of military barracks from the first half of the twentieth century, is surrounded by high peaks among which the sharp Rocca la Meja stands out. The economy of the municipality has always been linked to agro-pastoral activities. In recent years, summer and winter tourism has also developed, conquering a niche of excellence among foreign and Italian mountain guides.
