Varese: Location and surroundings of this property

Grantola, a small town in the province of Varese is part of the Valli del Verbano Mountain Community; it is surrounded by woods and meadows and is crossed by the Grantorella stream. Grantola was part of the Valtravaglia fiefdom, granted to Count Franchino Rusca in 1438 by Filippo Maria Visconti. Upon the death of the last descendant of the Rusca family, the fiefs returned to the Chamber were then assigned by the King of Spain to Giovanni Marliani III with the title of Count. The last of the Marliani, Roger III in 1773 sold the fief to Count Antonio Crivelli. The Crivelli family kept the fiefdom until 1796, the year in which the feudal system was abolished by Napoleon. It was an autonomous municipality in the Province of Como until 1927, when the Municipality of Montegrino Valtravaglia was created which merged the Municipalities of Grantola, Bosco Valtravaglia and Montegrino. In 1957 it returned to the Autonomous Municipality following a popular petition. There are numerous attractions that this small town offers, from the late seventeenth-century churches to the Palazzo De Nicola built between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to the municipal washhouse with a fresco from the 1600s and from which, taking a path that leads to the woods, in an instant you can reach it to the Calderone waterfall so called because of the puddle that forms at its feet. The steep hairpin bends leading to Cunardo are well known to all bicycle lovers for their harshness and always included in the classic "Tre Valli Varesine" cycling sport competition. The center of the provincial capital, Varese, and the highway to Milan are 20 km away, while Malpensa International Airport is 50 km away. The Swiss border and Lake Lugano can be easily reached along 13 km. Traveling 8 km you reach the coast of Lake Maggiore.
