Padova: Location and surroundings of this property

Montemerlo is a hamlet of the Italian municipality Cervarese Santa Croce in the province of Padua.
It is a territory of high historical interest for the Euganean Hills area, with roots in its Euganean trachyte quarry, which is still active today.
The toponym Montemerlo appears in a deed of sale dated 6 April 1106, in which one of the signatories is a certain Thuringian "de Monte Merlo". In later documents, it is often presented in the Latinized form Mons Meruli. It is a precise reference to the hill that dominates the town, in turn, linked to the name of the ordinary bird.
The building of one castle -held as a fief by a branch of the Transalgardi family called the Forzatè- dates back between the 10th and 11th centuries. Tradition would have it that the first owners of the fort were the brothers Carlotto and Giovanni, who arrived in Italy following Charlemagne. The emperor would have given them the land for their merits in battle, and, inspired by the name of their country of origin, Montmerle in France, they would have renamed it.
In 1807, with the institution of Napoleon's Kingdom of Italy, Montemerlo was united with Cervarese and San Martino to form today's municipality.
