Varese città: Location and surroundings of this property

The city of Varese lies on the shores of the lake of the same name. It is called Città Giardino (Garden City) because of the abundance of greenery to be found within the municipality, to which the gardens and parks of the many villas built here undoubtedly contribute. The city of Varese is in a characteristic position, at the foot of the Sacro Monte di Varese, which is part of the Campo dei Fiori Massif and is home to an astronomical observatory. Varese lies on seven hills: Colle di San Pedrino (402 m), Colle di Giubiano (407 m), Colle Campigli (453 m), Colle di Sant'Albino (406 m), Colle di Biumo Superiore (439 m), Colle di Montalbano (411 m) and Colle dei Miogni (492 m). The territory of the municipality is therefore between 238 and 1,150 metres above sea level. The winter in Varese is little affected by the mitigating influence of Lake Maggiore and the other smaller lakes in the province. The minimum temperatures in late autumn and winter frequently drop below zero, albeit by a few degrees. It is precisely the low night-time temperatures that create a different climate in the southern areas of the town. As in the other pre-alpine cities of Lombardy, fog is an infrequent phenomenon. Since 1960, it has been home to the only Italian seat of the European School created for the children of European officials of the Joint Research Centre. The airports of Milan Malpensa and Lugano Agno are about 30 minutes away. The shores of Lake Maggiore can be reached in 20 minutes by car.
