Carpasio can be reached by going through Montalto Ligure, along a lovely road with an open view of the vast, breath-taking landscape.
At 715 meters above sea level half way up the mountain, surrounded by land which has been transformed into cultivated terraces with vegetable gardens, vineyards and olive trees, the hamlet appears after the last road turnings like a group of houses suspended in mid-air, full of charm and it begs to be discovered.
Walking within the labyrinth of alleys you find yourself wrapped in an atmosphere from another time: the plastered houses blend with those in natural stone, giving a sense of kindness to the lanes that cover the village from top to bottom, among porticos, arches, entrance halls, fountains and small courtyards decorated with geraniums. A magnificent parish church dedicated to Sant’Antonino, martyr of the second half of the 16th century, with its baroque oratory next-door.
Just a few miles away we have Sanremo, Ospedaletti, Bordighiera, Ventimiglia and Cotè d’Azur with Nice international airport.
The surroundings are characterised by several chapels called of “good journey”, with scenes of the Stations of the Cross (Via Crucis) or the lives of Saints or with ex voto, all painted by local artisans.
Many excursions are available on foot or by mountain bike along the Carpasina stream which has crystal clear waters, pools and waterfalls in the middle of the woods or olive grove terraces.
An ideal place for those who long to relax in peace and quiet.
