In the characteristic central alleyway of the hamlet, under a stone arch one notices the old front door in chestnut wood, entrance to the property, which dates back to the 1700s, and next to it a typical slate seat, where in the past women, after a long day’s work in the fields would sit on summer nights and chat with their neighbours.
On entry one is welcomed by the cosiness of the kitchen, next there is a large double bedroom with bright windows which overlook the green valley below and an even brighter study, which could be turned either into a living room or an extra bedroom. A bathroom completes the floor.
The original old slate staircase leads to the second floor and nto the sun-drenched living room, from which there is access to the fantastic terrace which dominates the valley, with a view overlooking the olive groves which stretches down to the sea. Absolute peace and quiet, as well as being completely immersed in nature are the highlights of the terrace, an ideal place where one can relax while reading or sunbathing, and in the evenings, dine under the stars.
Tranquility, nature and homeliness are all defining characteristics of this hamlet, where everyone knows each other and especially in the summer, everybody parties together.
Sanremo-Imperia: Location and surroundings of this property
Valloria, a district in the Municipality of Prelà, in the sunny nearby Valprino, is an old hamlet which owes its name to the Latin Vallis Aurea, or golden valley - gold like the colour of the olive oil, which was the hamlet’s treasure up until a few decades ago.
Situated in cool lush greenery, at an altitude of 400m, it is not far from the sea and beaches.
The hamlet has remained intact, thanks to the love with which its inhabitants have preserved its buildings and traditions.
The Museum “of things lost”, in the old oratory of Santa croce, a building from 1587, shows the everyday household and agricultural tools and objects linked to the past centuries.
Another symbol of the hamlet are the Three Fountains, dating back to 1717, the first local aqueduct to bring water to its citizens.
Valloria’s prerogative though are their painted doors, in fact the old doors of barns, warehouses and homes have been painted with various themes by international artists, creating a rainbow of colours throughout the streets and alleys of the village.
During the summer, the hamlet comes to life thanks to many events, parties and feasts organized by “The Friends of Valloria”, and the common phrase is “a Valloria si fa baldoria!”(in Valloria you go wild!)
A bus service connects the hamlet to Imperia with a few daily runs.
The area is ideal for walks in nature or mountain biking, visiting all the typical nearby villages and stopping off for a bite to eat at the many local restaurants.
The sea, Imperia town centre and the motorway exit are around 15 km away.
Sanremo with its cycling path right beside the sea, just 30 km away and to reach both Nice and Genoa airports it takes around an hour and a half.
