Further Properties: Location and surroundings of this property

The municipality of Valganna stretches along the Strada Statale 233 Varesina, from the area of the Grotte della Valganna and the homonymous waterfalls, up to Lake Ghirla. On the left hydrographic side, stand Monte Chiusarella and Monte Martica, on the right side Monte Monarco, Monte Minisfreddo, Poncione di Ganna and Monte Piambello. The valley bottom is crossed by the stream Margorabbia, tributary of the two lakes present. To the south the territory of Valganna is affected by the Olona, which here has one of its six springs. In medieval times Ganna was a fief of the Badia di San Gemolo. In 1556 the Holy See decreed the suppression of the Abbey whose property and rights were transferred to the Ospedale Maggiore in Milan, from which the community depended for the following centuries. In 1751 the town was part of the parish of Arcisate and was still a fief of the Milanese hospital institution. In 1786, with the parish church of Arcisate, it became part of the province of Gallarate, then of Varese, following the territorial compartment of Austrian Lombardy, which divided the Lombard territory into eight provinces (edict 26 September 1786). In Ghirla there is news of a Ceramica di Ghirla from the end of the 1700s. With the reforms of the Cisalpine Republic, in 1798 the municipality was included in the department of Verbano, district of Arcisate. Then suppressed this department, it was transferred to that of the Olona, always in the district of Arcisate. In 1801 Valganna was placed in the II district of Varese of the Lario department. In 1805 it was designated with the denomination of "Valgana con Ghirla and united", common of III class. In 1807 the municipality was suppressed and united with that of Viggiù. It regained its autonomy with the Lombard Veneto Kingdom in 1815.
