The town of Porto Azzurro is located on the central-eastern side of the Isola d’Elba. Getting there both by car and by sea, you will be stunned by the fortress of San Giacomo that was built during the first years of ‘600 on top of the promontory. At the end of the XIX century, the fortress became a civil prison.
The seaside village developed at the bottom of the fortress. From the central square facing the sea, named Piazza Matteotti, you can see the amazing touristic harbour, where in summer there are majestic yachts and in winter fishing boats and other small boats.
On the seafront you can enjoy a nice dinner at one restaurant built on stilts, whereas going into the city centre, there are small streets full of nice shops.
Porto Azzurro is a 5-minute drive away from Capoliveri, 20 minutes from Portoferraio, 25 minutes from Procchio and 30 from Marina di Campo and 30 minutes from the airport of Campo that has good connections with the airports of Florence and Pisa and with Milan Linate and Lugano during summer time.
