Located in Trequanda, in the heart of Val d'Orcia and close to the Crete Senesi, the estate is set in a completely uncontaminated environment. It can be reached along a very scenic road, unpaved for the last two kilometres. This ever-charming landscape changes with the seasons. In autumn, bare ploughed fields exhibit a wide range of shades, from icy white to deep brown. In winter, each clod slowly begins to turn green, as the wheat seedlings start popping out. In spring, the same hills are cloaked in bright green, which will then turn blonde in the summer, when mature spikes cover the hills. In May, the lands left to pasture for flocks are dyed in Hedysarum’s blood red and Sainfoin’s pink. Gullies, crags and “biancane” are some of the typical terrain configurations. The Trequanda area is rich in lush forests, whose trees and shrubs are typical of the Mediterranean flora and Apennine’s low mountains. In some places, where the soil is particularly sandy, the vegetation is very similar to the Mediterranean coast. Cypress trees are arguably the most striking arboreal species in the landscape. Besides being distributed within forests, single lone cypress trees can be found in a corner, serving as boundary marks. It is also easy to spot more cypresses lined up in double rows along the farm roads, or grouped on the heights. Trequanda is renowned all over the world for its excellent oil and many festivals and events aiming to promote its value are held throughout the year. A must-see in the area is the village of Castelmuzio, a small and almost intact medieval village, situated on a ridge overlooking the green valley of the Trova. In the immediate vicinity, about 20 minutes by car, there are Pienza and Montepulciano, not far from the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. Siena is about a 45-minute’s drive away.
