In autumn people meet to enjoy roasted chestnuts and new wine
Long time ago every year, after wine pressing in autumn, the farmers along the so-called wine road (“Weinstraße”) in South Tyrol invited their workers to eat some typical savoury dishes and to taste the new wine and the so-called “Suser” (the new wine before fermentation). Nowadays, after a beautiful walking tour in autumn, people still meet in homely and authentic restaurants, the so-called “Buschenschänke”, in order to enjoy the typical dishes and the wine together with their families and friends. In autumn, when the days are getting shorter and the temperatures go down, everybody loves to meet for the „Törggelen”. From October until the end of November the local “Buschenschänke” offer very tasty dishes in a particularly warm and homely atmosphere. The word “Törggelen” comes from the Latin “torquere”, which means wine pressing.
