Living like a world champion: Where Messi, Ronaldo and co. are at home

The Football World Cup is entering its hot final stage: In less than two weeks we will know who the winner is of the World Cup 2018 in Russia, and the players can look forward to a deserved break in the comfort of their own homes. But where do football stars such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo spend their time when they are not on the playing field? We will show you where the football stars live and tell you what makes these regions so special.

- Engel & Völkers shows you the houses of Messi, Ronaldo and co. and reveals what makes their places of residence so special.

Lionel Messi: Castelldefels, Barcelona

With five FIFA World Player of the Year awards to his name, Lionel Messi is considered to be one of the top football players in the world. The place of residence of the native Argentinian is just as impressive as his playing style. Lionel Messi stays 20 kilometres from Barcelona in Castelldefels between lush overgrown mountains and the turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea. Glittering sandy beaches, the historical city centre and, last but not least, the excellent connection to Barcelona make the coastal town one of the most desirable places to live in Spain. So it’s hardly surprising that Messi’s team-mate Luis Suarez also has a villa here. The metropolitan region of Barcelona therefore remains a real hotspot for international celebrities.

Cristiano Ronaldo: La Finca, Madrid

Cristiano Ronaldo's house is also located in a suburb of a major Spanish city: The Portuguese goal-getter lives 15 kilometres away from the capital city of Madrid in the exclusive rural residential settlement of La Finca, Pozuelo de Alarcón. Many of Cristiano Ronaldo’s football colleagues and international celebrities also live here, making this the community with the highest income level in the Madrid region and an exceptionally high standard of living. The famous Spanish architect Joaquín Torres, who designed many of the villas in his unmistakable style of high-quality materials and bright colours, has contributed much to this development. So it is an ideal place to live for all those who want to enjoy the Mediterranean countryside idyll of Spain without compromising on modern comforts and a good connection to the city.

Neymar jr.: Bougival, Paris

In 2017, the Brazilian Neymar joined the long-established French club of Paris Saint-Germain for the record sum of 222 million euros. The striker has since been living in a villa on a 5000 square metre property in the small town of Bougival, eight kilometres from the world-famous palace of Versailles. The municipality of Bougival was established in the 19th century as a posh suburb of Paris and is regarded as the cradle of impressionism by art connoisseurs. The small town does in fact appeal to many an artist: The painter Claude Monet was inspired by the local nature, and composer Georges Bizet wrote his world-famous opera Carmen here. In addition to being a creative hotspot, the small city is also known for its idyllic green spaces. This is evidenced by the Ville Fleurie award it received, which is awarded annually since 1959 to French communities committed to sustainable greening.

Manuel Neuer: Tegernsee

As captain of the German national team and four-time world goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer is used to being at the centre of attention. So it is only logical that the world champion has chosen an especially quiet place of residence for himself. Manuel Neuer lives in Tegernsee, where he had a villa built for himself on the slopes of Mount Leeberg. Here the football star has a unique view of the entire region: Numerous country-style villas line the nine square kilometre Lake Tegernsee, which is tranquilly embedded in a 360° alpine panorama. This unique natural scenery makes a house at Lake Tegernsee the ideal choice for those seeking peace and quiet who do not want to decide between majestic mountains and waters.

Be it in sunny Spain, culturally significant Bougival or quaint Bavaria: Messi, Neuer and co. prove that their real estate is also playing in the top league. But you do not need to be a professional football player do experience the beauty of these places. Just take a look at our extensive portfolio and discover wonderful real estate in the most beautiful places in the world.
