We would like to introduce Enrico Francesconi, who has got his career of to an exceptional start as part of his dual programme of studies at Engel & Völkers. The 22-year-old reports on his successful time at E&V, which has already taken him to Hamburg, Milan and Lugano, and talks about his dream – of taking part in the Olympic Games 2016 in Brazil.
How did you come to work at Engel & Völkers?
Enrico Francesconi: I went to London for a nine-month trainee program after my school-leaving exams in Germany in 2011. I was employed at a local property company there and had contact through my work with the Engel & Völkers Shop in South Kensington. I was aware of E&V from Germany, but wasn’t aware until that point that the company had such a strong presence internationally. After returning to Germany I decided to begin a dual course of study in “Business Administration” at the “Hamburg School of Business Administration”. When it came to finding a company for the practical training part of the course, Engel & Völkers was my first choice. I wanted to work in a company that operates internationally in the property business. E&V has been well-established in the industry for a long time and offers me unique opportunities for my future career thanks to its global network.
What particular opportunities for development has Engel & Völkers offered you?
Enrico Francesconi: Engel & Völkers gave me the unique chance to spend no less than two of my course’s practical phases abroad. It is so fantastic that I am able able to gain professional experience not only at headquarters in Hamburg but in the Italian Regional Office in Milan and currently in a shop in Lugano. Whilst many of my fellow students have had to remain in Germany for their training, E&V sent me abroad on two separate occasions. That was and is a great challenge for me. Another aspect is the fact that I was assigned tasks involving a great deal of responsibility from the very beginning.
What qualities are required in your opinion to be successful at Engel & Völkers?
Enrico Francesconi: The company values of competence, exclusivity and passion shouldn’t just be empty words for employees at E&V. These terms have to be filled with life and identified with, in order to represent the company successfully. In addition to the requirements of specific job positions, I think a confident manner, a proactive and independent way of working, and high reliability each also play an important role. An affinity to property and distribution are also very important, as one would expect in our industry.
What distinguishes you outside of work, e.g. in terms of hobbies and family life?
Enrico Francesconi: I see myself as a team player, which is also down to my hobby – playing hockey. I’ve been playing for 15 years now and the sport has seen me play in numerous professional league games and gain a place on the Italian national team, in which I am the goalkeeper. I am training a lot at the moment, both at my club in Lugano and as frequently as possible with the national team. Together we would like to fulfil our dream of qualifying for the Olympic Games 2016 in Brazil. As well as it being a team sport, the willingness to perform is important to me. I don’t just expect this of myself, I also expect it of those around me and my friends both in sport and at work.
