1. How did you start working for Engel & Völkers?
I met our current managing director due to my activities in equestrian sports. Due to health reasons, it was no longer possible to continue that career, so I accepted an offer to do a 3 month internship at Engel & Völkers in Potsdam. Due to my positive experience, I then started vocational training as a property salesperson and graduated in 2011. I was very pleased when, in the third year of my apprenticeship, I was able to move to the rental department at Engel & Völkers Shops in Central Berlin, where I have been active until this day.
2. What makes your job so exciting?
Due to the fact that I came from another sector, I couldn’t imagine myself in a “traditional” office job. The rental market in Berlin is very fast-moving and diverse and therefore offers the opportunity to meet interesting people and a large variety of real estate. As the Engel & Völkers brand is very well known, we have a lot of international clients. Thanks to these contacts, I have been able to enjoy many different experiences and get to know the city and the market a little better every day.
3. What is the secret of your success?
We are service providers, therefore, working hard, quickly and reliably as well as being trustworthy and honest are indispensable. I value all customers equally – regardless of their “wallet”. As time goes by, one can quickly learn to recognise which attributes are important for the various customers and owners, and therefore I plan viewings and schedules accordingly. It is important not to use a “one size fits all” approach, but to display individual possibilities. Also, in our team, we support each other in our work.
4. What are the peculiarities of the Berlin real estate market?
Berlin is the most densely populated city in Germany and has developed into a popular metropolis. However, life here is tranquil and offers the right living and life atmosphere for everyone thanks to the various city areas with their “Kiezen”, or neighbourhoods. In comparison to other international cities, the Berlin real estate market is still favourable and offers a large variety for different price ranges.
