Heemstede is a medium-sized village in Kennemerland and a nice place to live. Heemstede has several beautiful residential areas with charming 1930s houses and villas, good primary schools, numerous sports facilities and a particularly pleasant shopping centre with various shops and restaurants. The shopping centre was voted as the nicest shopping street in the Netherlands in 2013! Also in the field of recreation you will not miss out here. The Groenendaal walking forest, with a children's playground and a petting zoo, is a popular attraction. The city centre of Haarlem and the beach are easily accessible by bicycle.
Haarlem, the capital of North Holland, is a very pleasant city with a beautiful historic centre. The city is characterized by De Grote Markt, in the middle of the shopping area, with its many shops and terraces, as well as the river Spaarne, which flows through the centre and where many boat owners like to do a 'round of Haarlem' in the summer. The many historic courtyards, various museums such as the famous Frans Hals museum and the Teylers museum are particularly popular. Haarlem is also very versatile in the culinary field. Numerous restaurants and nice bars can be found in the centre of the city. Haarlem station has fast connections to Heemstede, Zandvoort and Amsterdam Centre.
