Just in time for the opening of Dr. Barbara Sturm’s flagship boutique in New York City, GG-Magazine editor-in-chief Michaela Cordes and the New York team of E&V Americas got together and invited a group of 64 powerful Upper East Side ladies for a „You Glow Girl“ lunch in honour of the skin care guru to the stars at the iconic The Mark hotel. It was already the second exclusive GG-Power-Women-Event - after the launch party of the GG-Powerwomen issue this March at Le Bristol in Paris – that Engel & Völkers and the luxury skincare partnered to bring successful and inspirational women together. Read all about the event at The Mark hotel, which took place one day after this year's Met Gala, the guests who attended and Dr. Barbara Sturm's rise to internationally acclaimed beauty expert here:
Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ellen Pompeo and Kim Kardashian - even action film veteran Sylvester Stallone swears by them: the luxurious skin care products from Molecular Cosmetics by Dr. Barbara Sturm. With the opening of her first flagship store on Bond Street in NoHo, the skincare brand has now found a permanent home in NYC and from 16 May - when the boutique officially opens - facial treatments can be booked in two spa cabins with the beauty doctor from Germany.
This milestone in the unusual career of the trained sports physician and inventor of the so-called "Vampire Facial" was the official occasion for GG Magazine to celebrate the current GG cover star with another exclusive ladies lunch. Together with E&V Americas and the skincare brand GG hosted a "You Glow Girl" lunch and brought together a group of 64 interesting New Yorker powerwomen who enjoyed listening to the doctors talk about the Do's and Dont's of the right skin care. Over kale salad, grilled chicken breast and salmon pizza, the invited ladies discussed their personal experiences. The highlight: For dessert, the beauty doctor served her surprise cake in the form of an oversized "Dr Barbara Sturm Face Cream"-cake.
New York is already the second stop for the trio worldwide. At the beginning of March, shortly after Fashion Week, GG Magazine hosted a ladies lunch for 40 women at the Hotel Le Bristol in Paris. That time the publication launched their powerwomen issue which features the skin care doctor from Düsseldorf on the cover.
The guest list in New York was just as exquisite as the luxury skincare line itself: Fashion designer Lisa Marie Fernandez, jewellery designer Nina Runsdorf and DJane Mad Marj, Valesca Guerrand Hermes, Renee Rockefeller, Elisabeth Jones Hennessy (blogger and wife of Kilian Hennessy from the famous Cognac Dynasty), Shirin von Wulffen (co-founder "Bastide"), model Charlott Cordes, Fleur du Mal designer Jennifer Zuccarini, jewellery designer Loree Rodkin, Patty Mc Enroe (wife of John McEnroe), Elyse Newhouse and artist Rachel Hovnanian joined the event. Engel and Völkers Americas brought their top real estate advisers from all over America to this top-class event: Sandra Miller flew in from Los Angeles, Lourdes Alatriste from Miami - and Leslie Hirsch came from the E&V headquarters on Park Avenue.
As an additional surprise to all guests Barbara Sturm surprised everyone with vouchers for a free facial in her newly opened boutique and a fabulous goodie bag. In addition to the current issue of the GG magazine and accessories from the hotel shop, this included two products from her best selling collection: the face cream and the Super-Anti-Aging serum.
Only last year, the luxury hotel on the Upper East Side of New York was voted "Best City Hotel in the World" by German business magazine "Bilanz". The hotel is not only loved for its iconic black and white interior theme created by famous french interior master Jacques Grange but also for the spirit with which the hotel is run by its owner Izak Senbahar. "My vision was to create a Mecca for fashion, Hollywood, art and business worlds," Izak Senbahar recently explained in an interview with GG. His secret for success? "For us, everything is a Yes!“
Certainly also a reason why all rooms were fully booked during the Met Gala by Hollywood stars and models. This year the whole Kardashian family stayed at The Mark, as well as other celebrities like Rihanna and model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Kendall and Kylie Jenner got ready for their big performance in the rooms of The Mark and started from here into the night - the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the Met Gala takes place every year, is only a few blocks away.
The meteoric rise of Dr. Barbara Sturm began in a small village in Bad Liebenstein in Thuringia. After her family left the GDR to Moers near Düsseldorf, she studied medicine and sports and finally earned her doctorate in orthopaedics at the University of Düsseldorf. The starting point for her unprecedented career as a beauty doctor began in 2002, when Dr. Barbara Sturm developed her so-called autohemotherapy ("Vampire Facial") for facial treatment. This treatment stimulates blood cells to develop natural healing substances and proteins, which are then applied directly to the skin or in concentrated quantities in a cream for the treatment of inflammation and swelling of the skin.
The method quickly made headlines in the USA, and soon even Hollywood stars took a seat in Dr. Barbara Sturm's treatment chair. The enormous demand from celebrities for complementary products prompted the physician to expand her product range. Her cosmetic line now carries 52 different care products for women, men, children and even babies. With her company Molecular Cosmetics, Dr. Barbara Sturm is today known as THE leading brand in the luxury cosmetics market.
Dr. Barbara Sturm is, along with Melinda Gates and Delia Fischer, one of the many power women about whom you can read more in the current GG magazine. In a detailed and very personal interview, the beauty doctor talks about her professional beginnings as a single mother, her rise to a dermatology luminary and what the future holds for the cosmetics world. The current GG edition is available in well-stocked magazine stores, by subscription or in the online archive.
