Things to keep in mind before building a pool

Building a pool is one of the best ideas to enjoy the summer. It is the ideal space to enjoy the heat and the sun in the company of family and friends. It is possible to convert part of the land, garden, or plot into an enviable area of leisure, which can be completed with a good stereo, a barbecue, an oven, etc.

To build a pool, you need to consider a number of legal, material, planning, budgetary factors. In most of the Spanish municipalities, in order to authorise the construction of a swimming pool, there must be a professional technician to give your project the go-ahead.

The necessary land

The land on which the pool is to be located must be horizontal and have the necessary firmness. A terrain that has a slope can be enabled, but this will increase the final cost of the construction.

Although the depth of the pool will depend on the needs and preferences of the homeowner or the land, experts usually recommend a minimum depth from one metre to 1.60 metres.

What is the ideal location?

The best way to determine the ideal place for the pool to be located in the garden or land is to consult a professional.

There are some very important factors to take into account when finding the right site, such as the need for the excavation machine to access the chosen site. You will also need to discard trees with large roots that make digging difficult or may cause problems in the future.

It is also important to choose a site that offers privacy, regarding potential neighbours living on upper floors, people passing the street, etc.

Beware of oversized pools

Even if you prefer a large pool, you need to be realistic about the project. An over-sized pool can be impractical and further increase the final price.

The company or professional that is in charge of the construction can offer the necessary advice on the appropriate size of the pool by assessing budgets, different depths, models and the swimming pools' shapes, etc.

The materials

The materials for building the pool will also influence the final price. There are several options currently available:

• Stainless steel. This material is the most expensive, but also the most enduring. In addition, stainless steel can cope better in adverse weather conditions.

• Fibreglass. These are usually prefabricated in one piece. They are the most economical option, but may crack over time.

• Concrete. Very adaptable to weather conditions and to the chosen design. The material is not expensive, but the labour work can be more expensive than the above options..

Tones and colours

The pitch chosen for the pool will be well combined with the fabrication and lining inside. Light tones are more visually appealing, but they do show the dirt quickly.
