“Living Coral” – the call of the sea

After ultraviolet as interior design trend colour of the past year, the Pantone Colour Institute has now chosen “Living Coral” as the trend colour for this year. With its delicate shades of peach, it reminds of the colour of corals. Leatrice Eisemann, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, explains why this warm and soothing colour was selected: “In a world in which consumers are increasingly longing for interaction and societal connection, the very human and motivating properties of the joyful Pantone Living Coral strike the right note.”

Setting a maritime accent

Due to “Living Coral” unmistakably reminding us of sea coral, the colour is both refreshing and calming. This makes the trend colour very versatile, and it can be used either as a colourful eyecatcher or be integrated harmoniously into the overall colour concept of a room. Irrespective of the desired effect, all you need to do is decide to what extent you want to use “Living Coral” in your home. Sofa cushions and blankets in the trend colour are a good way of setting stylish colour accents in the coming spring and summer seasons. “Living Coral” is also perfect for kitchen accessories, as the colour provides a pleasantly red contrast to the otherwise white tableware.

For the brave of heart: use “Living Coral” on large surfaces

Have you completely fallen in love with this year’s trend colour? Then take the next step and use the colour for more than merely small home accessories. For example, for curtains or furniture such as chairs in “Living Coral”. Alternatively, you could also have a carpet in the trend colour and use it as the dominant element in your interior design.

Combine “Living Coral” with other Pantone colours

Whether “Living Coral” blends in harmoniously with your colour concept or stands out depends not only on the size of the accessories. It also depends decisively on what other colours you use in your home. For this reason, the Pantone Institute has created a total of five palettes that correspond well with “Living Coral”. In combination with various shades of green and grey, the trend colour functions as an effective eyecatcher. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a harmonious effect, it is recommendable to use the subtle pink and skin tones of the Sympatico and Shimmering Sunset palettes. To create a colourful and maritime atmosphere in your home, combine “Living Coral” with the various blue tones of the Under the sea palette. And if you like it even more colourful, use the varicoloured tones of the Trippy palette:
