There’s plenty of beautiful and high quality beaches . Sandy stretches as far as the eye can see, framed by golden cliffs, virtually deserted islands marking the boundary between Ria Formosa  and the sea, and small coves sheltered by the rocks. The ocean, in every shade of blue and mostly calm and warm, invites you for long swims and to indulge in water sports.

Top 10 of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve

Some of the most beautiful and welcoming beaches in the world are in the Algarve. It is a natural heritage that has been used in a sustainable manner, giving rise to spaces of quality able to respond to different needs. Beaches for all tastes, mostly recognized with the European "Blue Flag" seal.

For about 200km, the Algarve coastline is divided into, cliffs, caves and wide sandy beaches. Beaches of different shapes and sizes, bathed by clear, warm and calm waters.

Irresistible also, it´s the mild climate that is lived here throughout the year. Between Odeceixe and Vila Real de Santo António, the whole coastline enjoys a microclimate of Mediterranean characteristics in which temperatures vary between the 15th in the winter and the 30th in the summer.
The beaches of the Algarve are thus the ideal choice for an invigorating holiday.

The choice is difficult among hundreds of beaches each one more beautiful than the other. But here we presente you the list that meets more consensus as the Top 10 of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve.

Nr.1, Praia Dona Ana, Lagos

With transparent turquoise waters and fantastic golden cliffs  Dona Ana beach in Lagos was considered in September 2013 by the Spanish magazine "Condé Nast Traveler" the best beach in the world and "the most beautiful in Portugal." In February 2015 Praia Dona Ana is again awarded, this time was elected the Best Portuguese Beach by Trip Advisor.

Nr. 2, Ponta da Piedade, Lagos

Ponta da Piedade is considered a natural tourist monument of Lagos, in the Algarve, Portugal  being one of the tourist points of greater photographic interest of the region. On site, it´s possible to visit by sea the several existing caves, guaranteeing a pleasant and unique tourist experience.

Nr.3, Cova Redonda Beach, Lagoa

Small and charming beach between cliffs, situated in a small bay east of Senhora da Rocha beach. The only access to this beautiful beach is through a long  staircase.

Nr. 4, Odeceixe Beach, Aljezur

The Odeceixe Beach develops itself on the two sides of the Seixe river, that borders with the Alentejo region, having this way both river and sea waters reachable for swimming and sailing, perfect for families.
The Beach has around 1 km length during low tide and is one of the most beautiful and famous beaches of the region, being also known as the “first beach of the Algarve”, as it is located next to the border with the Alentejo region.

Nr.5, Praia do Carvoeiro, Lagoa

The town beach, Praia do Carvoeiro is a beautifully sheltered sandy bay and spreads out just in front of the square with cliffs protecting it on either side. There are bars and cafés ideally placed around the square to still enjoy the view when you leave the beach!

Nr.6, Albandeira Beach , Lagoa

Praia de Albandeira is a Beautiful small sandy beach, found in a small rocky cove in between Carvoeiro and Armação de Pêra and  in a small village called Vale de Engenhos.It is known for its natural pools on the rocks, which provide a magnificent beach experience for its visitors

Nr.7, Camilo Beach, Lagos

Praia do Camilo It is a small beach between cliffs. The sea here is exceptionally clean. The water has a nice colour and is almost transparent. This makes Praia do Camilo also a great beach for snorkeling. You will be able to see several fishes when snorkeling. The sea is calm and the water is not too cold.

Nr.8, Três Irmãos Beach, Portimão

The beach of Três Irmãos is located at the eastern end of a huge stretch of sand which makes up Alvor beach. This end of the beach is home to some fantastical rock formations and it is from some of these that the beach gets its name. Translated, "Três Irmãos" means "three brothers" and this refers to three sea stacks that run across the beach.

Nr.9, Monte Clérigo Beach

Just 7km West of Aljezur lies unspoilt Monte Clerigo, a cozy romantic fishing village where the small beach cottages nestle right up to the sand. The beach is a long smooth expanse of sand which is perfect for sunbathers, swimmers, surfers and fisherman. It is a wonderful family beach as it is large and sandy with rock pools and is easily accessible.

Nr.10, Barreta Island, Faro

The Barreta Island , also known as Deserta or Island of the Lighthouse, is in the Ria Formosa and is the southernmost territory of mainland Portugal (the southernmost point of Portugal is in the Desertas Islands, in the Autonomous Region of Madeira). The island is uninhabited and is essentially a nature reserve, besides having a long sand beach, not frequented. It can be accessed only by boat starting from Olhão or Faro.
