The more exposed beaches such as Tonel have helped to make Sagres the surf capital in the Algarve while the more sheltered beaches such as Mareta or Martinhal are favorites for families as they continue to maintain their natural and unspoiled surroundings.
Sagres is a lively fishing village with a picturesque harbor at Ponta da Baleeira which becomes very lively at the end of the day when fishermen return from work.
