Success creates responsibility. And a look on the beautiful things in life that Engel & Völkers is very familiar with does not prevent them from recognising the need elsewhere. This is the motivation to let people in need participate in our success which led to the creation of Engel & Völkers charity.
Engel & Völkers Charity - what we achieved, what is about to come
The specific involvement in Agbetiko, Togo, is based on a private connection. One first donation by Christian Völkers developed to grow into a corporate social responsibility initiative. Today’s chairmen are Ninon Völkers (chairwoman), Thilo v. Trotha (representative chairman), Kai Enders and Ina Schlüter. Through a direct connection between Engel & Völkers and its charity, 100% of the donations can be transferred directly to the project.
The initiative led to the construction of École privée Engel Völkers in 2009, an elementary school for the district’s children. Since 2010, the school teaches the official language French, most important requirement for a further education and more sophisticated professions. Additional to the lessons in reading, writing and maths, the school provides all necessary course material and two hot meals per day in the school’s canteen that has been built in 2017.
Engel & Völkers charity offers you the possibility to take on a personal sponsorship for a student. For 25 € per month, a child will get the elementary school education, a school uniform and two hot meals per day. Of course, you will be updated regularly about your godchild’s progress in form of reports and pictures.
Engel & Völkers has established further ways to generate donations. For example, many employees in Engel & Völkers’ headquarter in Hamburg decided to donate the money to charity, that is usually spent on a flower bouquet for their birthdays. Another initiative that has started quite recently in 2017 concerns the cent amounts of the employees salaries. The headquarter’s employees can decide to donate these amounts that are less than one Euro to charity. With more than 300 people working in Engel & Völkers headquarter, quite an amount will be collected and the students in Agbetiko are going to benefit from this amount.
Every coffee speciality in our headquarters can be bought for 50 Cents. All of this intake is also being transferred to our charity. So our employees do good every time they treat themselves with a cappuccino.
Apart from this, Ninon Völkers & Ina Schlüter are regularly building up collaborations with designers who create tasteful products and the revenue of these will be donated in part to Engel & Völkers Charity. One collaboration with the designer Katharina Schoen led to a Christmas campaign in 2017. The designer from “Katharina Schoen - Belts & Co from Kenya” created high-quality leather belts handcrafted in Nairobi and Massai villages which are produced in the Engel & Völkers colours. A large part of these special Christmas gifts’ revenue will be given to charity.
Since the beginning of Engel & Völkrs charity, the first year of students completed elementary school - with great success! Eight of the district’s ten best students went to École privée Engel & Völkers.
To make the most out of this huge potential, a secondary school has already been planned. A property for the collège has already been found.
