Plaza Masadas in Barcelona's Sagrera

As time has gone by, it has meant that unfortunately nowadays, there are not too many plazas left in Barcelona. These plazas literally have a special charm and an undeniable attraction that reminds us of the past. In this article, we want to dedicate a few lines to talk about Plaza de las Masadas; one of the best preserved in Barcelona.

Plaza de las Masadas is located in Barcelona's Sagrera and very close to the popular Plaza Reial. It is excellently connected since there is a metro station within walking distance. In fact, once you get off at this stop, you only have to cross Plaza de la Assemblema de Catalunya and carry on walking a few metres down Coll Street to reach this plaza. You should also keep in mind that it is closed to traffic, which is appreciated for those who wish to enjoy its charms.

It is also possible to find a great variety of traditional shopping establishments where you can enjoy a good vermouth or a refreshing drink during the summer afternoons. This plaza was remodelled during the time Mayor Maragall was in charge of the city who was responsible for giving it a fresh coat of paint.

It should also be noted that Plaza Masadas has remained virtually unchanged over time. In fact, even today, most white buildings in identical height have been preserved with very similar arcades. They were damaged during the 70s, at which time one of the buildings was demolished and gave way to a higher construction. Fortunately, this aberration has remained exclusively as a feature and an anecdote within its undeniable architectural harmony.

There is no doubt that the other main charm of Plaza Masadas is its typical neighbourhood atmosphere. Although Barcelona is one of the most visited European capitals by tourists, today, it is possible to continue seeing grandparents take a stroll with their grandchildren, young people playing in the centre, and adults having a coffee or an aperitif in the traditional bars with terrace. In addition, although not very often, there are concerts organised in this plaza and markets that sell toys, pottery and many other things.

In short, Plaza Masadas continues to survive with the passage of time and although it is not a place that's known by those who come from outside the city, many are the residents of Barcelona who, whenever they can, take advantage of visiting this beautiful, quiet and cosy place.
