Porto and Lisbon in the top 10 list of the most exciting cities in the world

Portugal has been internationally evaluated in several categories and scored based on its quality of life and tourism. Recently, the tendency to put our country and its cities in the forefront of the world has received a new reward by highlighting Porto and Lisbon as two of the most exciting cities in the world.
This assessment was based on the Time Out City Life Index ranking, which evaluated countless cities by trying to understand which ones had the greatest potential for excitement and which ones categorised themselves as affordable and liveable. This ranking came from a survey of 15,000 people from all over the world and evaluated numerous factors.

Among the factors assessed in this survey were the cultural and entertainment aspects, but also the people's friendliness, quality of life, happiness, the quality of gastronomy and affordability.
In view of this analysis, Portugal proudly boasts its main cities in the top 10, with Porto reaching second place and Lisbon ranked as the eighth. In addition to the Lusitanian cities, Chicago, New York, Merbourne, London, Madrid, Manchester, Philadelphia and Barcelona are also among the 10 most exciting cities in the world.
Considering the excellent results obtained in the 2018 Time Out City Life Index, it is worth looking at these cities and finding out why they are (officially) some of the most exciting cities in the world.

Porto, the second most exciting city in the world

The 2018 Time Out City Life Index survey ranked Porto as the second most exciting city in the world. Its respondents considered that this is one of the best cities for finding love, feeling free to be yourself, making friends and enjoying the great leisure and cultural offer. Porto also received good reviews with regard to its cost of living as it is considered to be an affordable city.
This vision of Porto certainly will not be strange for those who are familiar with its modern and cosmopolitan spirit, which does not dispense with the traces of northern tradition, where hospitality always prevails.

In this city there is no shortage of opportunities to take a deep breath and enjoy life among the greenery of its parks, such as Jardim Passeio Alegro and Jardim de São Lázaro. In the nooks and crannies of the streets and cafés, one can always hear friendly words being exchanged, with or without an accent, which indicates that everyone is welcome to the party of life.
With an oriented culture and a noticeable young and jovial nature, Porto brings all those who visit it the opportunity to deeply experience its art scene (such as music, theatre, dance and art galleries) and invite the daring ones for a lively nightlife that vibrates between the meanders of enthusiasm and security, accompanied by the best concerts and festivals.

In addition, this is a party city which helps to further elevate the level of fun lived within. For example, the Night of Saint John festival is celebrated in June as the city comes to life with vibrant colours of fireworks in the sky.
The other factor is the gastronomy, which speaks for itself by bringing such famous delights as Francesinha, Tripas à Moda do Porto, Douro wines and, of course, Porto wine.
There is also Porto's affordability factor that played a crucial role in transforming Portugal's second city into the second most exciting city in the world.

Lisbon, the eighth most fun city in the world

The eighth place in the 2018 Time Out City Life Index was the Portuguese capital. The respondents had a lot to say about this city by emphasising that it would be an ideal place to live in, since it is cheap and where the fun never ends. The great social experience was also highlighted, which helped raise the reputation of the Portuguese capital in this analysis.
Also those who are familiar with Lisbon know that this award is fully deserved. After all, this is a cosmopolitan city that never sleeps. The Portuguese capital reaches out to everyone so that no one misses out on all the fun.

Whether it is for its cultural venues or simply the cobbled streets where you can experience the reality of an open air museum among monuments and fado music, the truth is that Lisbon appeals to the senses and conquers hearts worldwide.
The leisure and cultural offers of Lisbon are diversified and continuous, existing alongside a unique gastronomic tradition and combining, within it the best of what is done in the world and the best of traditional Portuguese food.
